A THIRTY THOUSAND CLUB. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Tuesday. At a public meeting to-night to receive the report and balance-sheet in connection with the recent carnival, it was decided to form a thirty thousand club, having for its immediate object tho advancement of Napier, and for its ultimate aim, the bringing up of the population to 30,0000. WELLINGTON OPERA HOUSE. Wellington, Tuesday. The Wellington Opera House Company has accepted the tender of Sanders Bros", Wellington, of £33,000, for the erection of a new opera-house in Manners street. The building is to lie finished by Christmas, 1013. It will have the finest stage south of the line, and the second largest auditorium in Australasia.
THE HAWKE'S BAY SYNOD. Napier, Tuesday. The Synod adopted a resolution' recommending the General Synod to admit women to parish meetings. CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION. Wailii, Tuesday. In connection with the cattle deal case. Ernest Richard Worth v. Joseph Snell, in which plaintiff sought to recover £fif), being the cost of eleven cattle, bought on behalf of defendant, which were drowned in the course of delivery, the Magistrate, Mr. Fraser, this morning gave judgment. The evidence, tho Magistrate said, was in favour of plaintiff. Judgment for the amount claimed was given with costs.
