Complaint lias been ma<!i> more than once to us recently regarding the gentle habit certain members of the cabby profession are alleged to possess of charging more than their proper legal fare. At the solicitation of one irate party we print the cab-hire charges. They are as follows: Two-horse carriage: For first hour, ss; for each subsequent quarter of an hour or fraction of a quarter of an hour, Is 3d. Whore the carriage is taken to a point outside the borough limits and the hirer docs not return, one-half only of the preceding rates shall be paid for the time of return from such point to the nearest carriage stand. By distance: For any distance within the borough, one way, for one or two passengers travelling together, Is; for every additional passenger, Cd. For every other half-mile. or. part of a half-mile outside the borough, each 6d. Any person calling or sending for any carriage and not further employing the same, exclusive of detention, Is. For detention for every five minutes after the first five minutes, 6d.

Children under ten years of age, accompanying any other passenger, or passengers, shall be charged half fares only, except children under two years, who shall be carried free of charge. Between the hours of seven o'clock p.m. and eight o'clock a.m., the drivers of carriages shall be entitled to charge double the amount of the respective fares authorised oy the by-laws. The fares on Sundays and public holidays shall be the same as upon other days. Each passenger shall be entitled to take with him in any carriage any luggage (provided the same be not of an offensive or dangerous nature or unreasonably bulky) not exceeding forty pounds in weight, without being charged for the same. The boundaries mentioned are those of the old Borough.
