FIRE TAKES A FRESH HOLD. MINE TO BE FLOODED. EXPLORATION POSTPONED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Hobart, October 22. Dense volumes of smoke are still issuing from the mine. The fire has taken a fresh hold at the 700 ft. level, and is spreading. A party with helmets made another attempt to reach the bodies, but were driven back. No more attempts will be made until the situation has improved.

It is understood that the management has decided to flood the mine to above the 7Ooft. level. As it will take three weeks to fill, the recovery of the bodies has been postponed indefinitely. The Federal Government has voted £2500 to the, Lyell relief fund.
