IN OTHER CENTRES. WELLINGTON RESULTS. The Wellington cricket season opened on Saturday. The wicket was dead, and in favour of the bowlers. The results were:—East A lfifl (Cullen 30, Baker 33, Gibbee 2d) v. South 4 wickets for 5 run*; College 114 (Fanning 39) v. Petone 125 for 4 wickets (Barber not out CI, Dalgleish 41); Central 99 (Blamires 28) v. Hint (i wickets for 70 (Yeates 20, Isherwood 18 hot out). East B v. North could not be played as Kelburne Park was unfit for play. AUCKLAND'S OPENING. The district cricket competitions were opened to-day on wicketfl that were slightly damp, but generally good. Results:— North Shore, 248 (Sale 83, Prime 40, Cossey, not out 81) v. Ponsonby. Parnell, 141 (Wright 44) v. University, 81 for four iwikets (Eraser 35). Fenwick took four Parnell wickets for 28. Eden, 280 for nine wickets (Cummings 81, Brooke-Smith 48, Hay, not out 41)" v. Grafton.
SENSATIONAL SCORE AT CHRISTCHURCH. The weather was fine for the continuation of the grade matches to-day, Sydenham inflicted a heavy defeat on last year's champions (Riccarton), scoring 29C in -their first innings, J. H. Bennett scoring 103 (not o*ty:" Linwood got a two-point win against St. Albans, as did West Christcliurcli against East, scoring 409 (om> innings and six wickets) to 178.
Loudon, a Christ's College boy, made 298, then, thinking that he had beaten W. Raphael's record, he threw his wicket away. It has been discovered, however, that 'his total only equals the previous best.
