A MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Pahiatua, Last Night. Some anxiety has l)een caused in Pahiatua during the past week by the mysterious disappearance of Mr. E, \v ;■- riott, a well-known local hairdresser. Marriot left his home in Wakeman street on Sunday evening, and has not been heard of dinee, though enquiries have been instituted. Marriott, who is a well-known "sport," is secretary of the Bush Boxing Association, and also a member of the Committee of Honorary Territorials. An overcoat and cap found i on the bank of the river at Mangatainoka by an angler last week have been handed over to the police. The clothing is believed to have belonged to Marriott. The care of Marriott's wife and family has been taken in hand by several local residents, who have subscribed monev on the family's behalf.
