! •■•.,. i» AUCKLAND STRIKE ENDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Yesterday. At a special meeting of the Laborers' Union last evening about 150 were present. Mr. Canham, of the Federation Executive, was present and explained the action of the Federation in not supporting the strike. The meeting was generally of the opinion that to prolong the strike was useless, but no official steps were taken in regard to the matter. With the exception of one or two extremists, the men, it is stated, will end the strike by returning to work or applying for work. As certain of the local bodies concerned will not take back any of the strikers, many men "will rind I
it difficult to secure employment. A special meeting of the Waterside Workers' Union followed, ft was attended by about 500 men, who discussed the position. The extremist section urged an immediate cessation of work, , and were supported by a delegation of the General Laborers' Union, but a vote resulted in a majority of two to one being unfavorable to a strike. Mr. Can- ■ ham addressed the meeting at length, but his endeavor at explanation was received unfavorably by the majority of the men, who expressed themselves greatly dissatisfied with the apparent neglect of the Federation in leaving the Huntly miners to fight for themselves, and also its desertion of the Auckland laborers.
THE HUNTLY STRIKE. Auckland, Last Night. The following telegram was posted at the office of the Waikato Miners' Union, Huntly: "Administrative executive meeting in session unanimously endorsed the stand taken by your executive and union. Negotiations are proceeding to arrange for a conference, both with the coal miners and the gold owners, to discuss ■ the position. Hope developments soon. (Signed) Collins." :
