COVERED COURTS CHAMPIONSHIP. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, October 20. Ritchie defeated Doust for the covered courts championship, 6—B, (5—2, 3—6, 4—4. Doust retired owing to cramp. In the covered courts championships, Mavrogordato defeated Ritchie, B—6, o—7, 6—2, in the singles, and Pockley and Mrs. Lambert Chambers won th* mixed doubles.

FLTZROY CLUB. The annual report of the Fitzroy Lawn Tennis Club, which was presented" at the annual meeting of that body last week, said that last season, as far as tennis went, must be considered rather a failure. Wet weather was experienced until well on into the New Year, and con-, sequent!)' very few matches were played. The report added jfhat the grass courts had been re-turfed and top-flressed, and should be in good condition to open about the middle of November. The back lines of the asphalt courts had also been improved and made play much more pleasant. The balance-sheet showed receipt* totalling £OO fis Od aiid expenditure £62 10s, leaving a credit on the year's working of £7 7s 9d. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. A. ' Ambury, sen. (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs. T. Q. Sole, A; S. Brooker, and A. Gray; hon, secretary, Miss E. Andrews; hon. auditor, Mr. A. Lee (re-elected); delegate to association, Mr. W. Hi Broome (-re-elect-ed) ; committee, Misses A. Sole, M, Arthur, and W. Crocker, Messrs. R. W. Jackson, J. W. Smith, A. C. Evans, and G. Loveridge; match committee. Missel Potior and Arthur and Messrs. W. Linte and R. W. Jackson.

Six new memebrs were elected

It was decided to open the. season on the asphalt courts on Saturday lext SBth instant. The fixing of the date for commencement of play on the grass was left to the committee.
