THE MINE FIRE.
THE DEATH ROLL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, Hobart, October 19. Mrs. McCarty, whose death from grief was reported, is alive. Malioney, president of the Miners' Union, speaking regarding the conflict of ©pinion about the number of the entombed, says that he was present when tfce accountant called the roll. The accountant had the morning time sheet, which showed that there were 102 below, and as fifty-four were rescued there were forty-eight below. If that was correct, 'the only reason he could give for the company making the number 42, was that, during the excitement, the men were not tallied correctly. i As some men have since left, the tally cannot be checked.
