LAND LEGISLATION.
WHAT MEMBERS PROPOSE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent). Wellington,, Saturday. There is every indication that the passage of the Land Bill through its committee stage, will be. a long and stormy one. Members of the Opposition spoken to on the subject hinted that it would take at least a-week. Some idea of what is in store may be gathered from the amendments of which members have already given notice. Mr. Buddo will move that residence on pastoral laud shall bo compulsory, except where a run is so sitnated that in the opinion of the Board and the Minister the conditions of ro'sidence may be relaxed or set aside.
Mr. Witty is going to move that any person who is successful at a land ballot,, and thereafter disposes of his lease, shall be disqualified from taking part in another ballot for a period of ten (instead of five) years. It is proposed by Mr. Buxton that an applicant who is the owner of land of an area insufficient to maintain himself and his family shall be deented to be landless if he undertakes to transfer such land to some other landless person before he is put into possession of the land for which he is an applicant.
On clause 31 .Mr. Sidey will move to provide that the price at which settle'ment land may be sold shall not be less than the value .of the land In respect of which the annual value was determin«d..
Mr. Sider wilt also endeavor to provide that the limitation of area provisions shall apply to all classes of land disposed of in fee simple.
The Prime Minister will move to amend the Aet bo ns to render a land agent ineligible for a seat on a land board. Mr. W. I). S. Mac Donald has given notice to move a series of amendments enabling holders of settlement lands under lease-in-pcrpetuity to purchase the freehold at the original capital value, either for cash or upon deferred payments.
