"DOWNFALL OF BRITAIN."

GERMAN NEWSPAPER'S WISH FATHER TO THE THOUGHT. Berlin, August 20. The coming downfall of the British Empire is painted in glowing colors by the Breslauer Morgenzeitung in a long leading article to-day. The paper professes to see unmistakable signs of England's decay, and predicts the disintegration of the .Empire at no distant date. "if the picture of the Colossus with the feet of clay," it says, "ever has found a living personification, it is seen to-day in the state in which the First Power of the great British Empire—finds itself.

i "It is clear that after an unsuccessful war the great world nation of Britain would go to pieces. The provinces of Canada, India and Egypt would fall away, and the remaining island realm would sink to the political rank, perhaps, of Spain. "For years, ever since England gave up her policy of splendid isolation, she has displayed a condition of haste, uneasiness and nervousuess. The evidence of this is shown in these efforts at universal brotherhood, this feverish seeking of alliance with Powers which, like Japan, only recently became eligible, or, like Russia, which at bottom is still England's natural enemy and direct rival in Asia. It is a certain sign that England is conscious of her weakness, and has long forgotten to depend on her own strength and have faith in her own power. "The worm has entered this hitherto healthy State, and has caused the disease fiom which comes these fevers that shake the body politic. England finds herself in the grasp of a socio-political crisis of tremendous force."
