It was suggested at the annual meet-, ing of the Park Club on Monday evening that the club should do as others did—electing a number of vice-presidents, whose donations would prove very acceptable. The chairman said the founders of the club had from the inception set their faces against this "cadging" practise, and preferred to appoint a limited number of useful to a long string of ornamental ollice bearers elected but for what could .be got out of them.
The Park greens are improving every week and should be in first-class condition for the opening day early next month.
The English team's tour in New Zealand is to be from December 18 to January 10.
11. L. Doherty C'Little Do") has become a crack golfer. He recently beat both H. 11. Hilton (the former British anil American champion) and Fred Herreshoff (the American player). Curiouslj enough, Dolierty lias persuaded Hilton to "time up" his muscles before coming to this country to play in the championship, by indulging in some tennis.—American Lawn Tennis.
It would seem as if the Australasian Cup team lias already been chosen. According to Melbourne papers to hand this week, Dunlop, Heath and Lycett are practising together, and the twoformer are displaying fine form. Heath's inclusion will 'depend greatly on his health, which was not satisfactory for several months; in fact, only last May he had to retire from the tournament in Sydnev and listen to a private hospital for a throat operation. Ollivier left for the scene of action last week, and if he proves that lie can stand the warmer climate it is quite on the cards that he will be chosen as reserve singl * player if Heath cannot play. Brookes has no doubt invited Ollivier to go across. H. A. Parker and Mrs. Bremer defeat ed H. Rice and Mrs. Sheldon, 6—2, 6—3 in the Western Districts mixed doubles final. I , hag had a wonderful sea
son, but he met with a reverse at the hands of A. H. Lowe in the North ol England singles final. Parke was the holder of the title, but Lowe accounted for him in straight sets, 6—4, C—4, despite the fact that Parke led 4—o in the second. Parke and Charlton won the men's doubles, the holders (A. W. Dunlop and F. G. Lowe) not defending. Mrs. Larcombe added to her great reputation by retaining the ladies' singles, and mixed pairs with Parke, and winning the doubles with Miss Longhurst. The Folkstone tournament, like many others, was spoiled by the weather. Dixon and Mavro divided the singles prizes and Doust-Mavro divided the doubles with Winslow-Benningfield (South Africa). Maurice E. McLoughlin, who won the National Tennis Championship from Wallace P. Johnson at Newport recently, is back in San Francisco, and is being lionised to his heart's content. For that matter, the attentions shown him are embarrassing to the Californian racquet wielder, as he is of a modest, retiring nature. In addition to winning the singles championship, McLoughlin played partners with Bundy, another Californian, and won the doubles championship. The opposition players were Touchard and Little. McLoughlin believes that William A. Larned's retirement from tennis will he only temporary. He thinks Earned intends to rest up for the balance 'of the-season,-and re-enter the lists next year • McLoughlin and Bundy will be banquetted bv the Pacific States Lawn Tennis Association during the coming week.
