AGRICULTURAL SHOWS.
THE HAWKE'S BAY SHOW. Hastings, Last Night. The weather was perfect for People's Day at the ILawke's Bay spring show. The attendance of fifteen thousand showed an increase on last year, and the predominance of the farming community present evidenced the growth of the rural population in this district of late years. His Excellency, who is the guest of Mr. G. P. Donnelly, arrived at noon, and was welcomed by the president, Mr. T. H. Lowry- He was afterwards entertained at luncheon by the officers of the Society. In the course of liis reply to the toast of His Excellency, the Governor mentioned that Hawke's Bay was the first show he. had attended after his arrival in the Dominion, and it would prabably be the last he would visit in this country. He said that the stock seen here compared favorably with the best the Old Country could produce. 'Although leaving New Zealand, he would [always remain in spirit with the agriculturalists of this country. He emphasised I that the people here were dependent upon the development of a great agricultural industry for the future solidarity of the Empire. To-morrow His Excellency opens the newly-established cheese "factory at Waiohiki, which is the first in the Taradalo district. Additional champions: Thoroughbred entire horse, !Tbos. Hoult and Sons; thoroughbred mare, T. 11. .Lowry.
