In doing so ihe took the opportunity to congratulate the members on the splendid opening day, both from the point of view of the large attendance and the excellent shooting. He expressed pleasure at the number of young shots who were on the range, and congratulated them on the splendlid scores 'they had made, in many instances as the result of a first attempt. He went on to give them a few words of good advice, telling them not to get disappointed if thenscores did not compare favourably with those of the older shots. Everyone had to make a start. The majority of the young shots present had made a' far better start and- their ]jrospocts of being good shots were better than many of the older hands. He trusted that they would pay. strict attention to practice, as it was only by continual practice that they could ever hope to become crack shots. To Rifleman IT. Evans he presented the Champion Shield and gold medal, and to Rifleman W. Bruce President's gold medal. Other recipients of trophies won in connection with the series of championship matches were: Riflemen W. Wiiwlade, CI. Blanehard. W. Short. XV. Beadle, and President Humphries. Next Thursday n malcli will bo fired between the Rifle Club's B team and a squad from B Company Territorials. Practice will be indulged in b\- the remainder of the Club.
