There was a fair attendance in the St. Andrew's Hall, last night, to listen to an entertaining lecture on Sir Walter Scott by the Rev. H. J. Lewis. The promoters of the evening were the members of the Ladies' Guild, who had also arranged for other items which interspersed the lecture, In an interesting .treatise of the great novelist's literary productions, the lecturer dwelt on the charm of his work, which lie ascribed to its restfulness. During the evening Mr. A. Mat'Diarmid recited 1 the dialogue between Fitz James and Rhoderick Dhu, and Mr. Blyth, also recited in his characteristically able style, an extract from "Marmion." Mesdames Cullen and Murphy, Messrs. Reid and A. MacDiarmid sang as a quarttete Scott's "When Israel of the Lord Beloved." Other items rendered during the evening were, "Hail to t'he Chief," by a Glee party, and the following songs: "Jock-o'-Hazeldean" (Miss Leiteh), "Blue Bonnets" (Mrs. Cutler), "Pibroch of Donal Dhu" Mr., (Yeale). The accompaniments were played by Mll. J. 0. McGregor.
