FEDERATION OF LABOR.

, ; NO WELLINGTON DEMONSTRATION. TURNED DOWN BY TILE MEN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. , It is understood that the ballot of . the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Un--3 ion on the proposal to observe next Sat- ! urday as a 'holiday to hold a demonstration of protest against the imprisonment 3 of the Waihi miners resulted in a ma- [ jority of 30 against the proposal. About 1 1000 voted. 1 TIME FOR ACTION. [ "FEDERATION WANTS WAR—LET THEM HAVE IT!" > Auckland, October 15. I Speaking at a meeting of the Mt. ; Albert Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr. i J. Coyle) said that the council should . -take up a very linn attitude in regard to the Federation of Labor's tactics. The Federation had thrown down the gauut- , let; the local bodies should not 'hesitate to accept the challenge. It was time to say, "We will tight you to the bitter end." The pinpricking tactics of the Federation should be stopped once and for all. He knew that most of the local bodies were of the same opinion. No one objected to sane unionism, but with the Federation men every little pottering thing was made the' subject of a strike talk. On the occasion of the last general laborers' strike, when Messrs. Parry and Semple were so keen on an agreement, the employers had questioned the value of an agreement with such people. The utter worthlessness of such an agreement ihad been proved by subsequent events. He was against having any truck with such people outside the Arbitration Court. The Federation aws always crying "war"—well, his advice was to let them have war, and not to cense lighting until the dictatorial tactics of the Federation were no longer possible. The Mayor's action in the matter was endorsed by the Council.
