SUMMARY AND FORECAST. ' —. 1 , By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington. Last Night. Summary.—Cloudy and unsettled weather has prevailed. Heavy rain has fallen in many parte of the South Inland. Northerly winds, strong to a gale, have prevailed to the northward of Kaikoura and Hokitika, and strong ' southeasterlies ejsewhere. The barometer has fallen in- the. North and risen in the South. Forecast.—Present indications are for northerly winds, strong- to a gale, veerinj by west to southerly northward, of Hokitika and Kaikoura, and south-easterly winds prevailing elsewhere. Heavy rain is probable generally, especially on the East Coast of the South Island, with the rivers rising. Snow mav be expected on the higher levels, and colder weather following. .The barometer is due to rise everywhere after ahout ten hours, and will probably be high.
