GENERAL TELEGRAMS.
NEW CHRISTCHURCH PAPER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ohristchurch, Monday. It is understood that a company <w.is registered here on Saturday, with a capital of £75,000, to establish a new evening paper. A statement to this effect was made on Saturday night by Mr. E. C. Huie, late editor of the Evening News, who is to bo the editor of the new journal. The promoters are said to bo prominent supporters of the Reform Party. Christehuroh, Monday. The prospectus of the Canterbury Publishing Company was issued to-day. It spates that the main objects are to establish an independent evening paper in Christchurch. The promoters are Messrs. D. D. McFarlane, W. G. Jamieson, J. J. Dougall, J. J. Boyds, H. D. Aoland, A. IT. Turnbull, and Dr. Stevenson. Mr. E. C. Huie is secretary to the company. DUNEDIN BAND CONTEST. Dunedin, Monday. The bands contest began this morning. The 14th Regimental Band, Milton, is not participating, and three doubtful starters are Derry's Private Band (Christchurch). Timaru Garrison, and Invercarigill Garrison. The 10th Regimental Band conies from Oamaru. Tomorrow all the other fifteen bands will be present.
