EXHAUSTING DRIVING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. At Timaru a youth was sued to-day for the value of a horse which he hired at a livery stables with a buggy for, as he said, a .reasonable journey. The horse was brought back exhausted, and died soon after reaching the stable. Evidence showed that the youth had driven eighty miles in about twelve hours, with three adults and four children in the buggy. The Magistrate decided that the I defendant had driven too far, held him responsible, and ordered him to pay for the horse, assessed at £lO, and costs.
THE CANADIAN CADETS,
Invercargill, Last Night. Captain McTaggart, advance manager for the Canadian Cadets, arrived at the Bluff to-day. He said that the boys had had a particularly good time wherever they had been, particularly in Western Australia. There was no evidence of the boys being disappointed at any place in Australia. They were treated right roy,ally everywhere. They are in good' health, and are looking forward to gamea of Rugby in New Zealand. Arrangements are being made for their entertainment in Invercargill on October 21 and 22.
