BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY REPORTS. The usual departmental reports will be presented at to-niglit's meeting of the Borough Council. WORKS COMMITTEE.
I The Works Committee recommends:— That the Governor be respectfully requested to proclaim as a roail, under the provisions of the Land Act. section 903 (known as part 18 abandoned railway); that Mr. S. Loveridge be informed that the Council lias no power to enclose a portion of Tamar street; that the Frankley Road Settlers' Association be informed that the question of a water trough at'Frankley Road will be considered when the scheme for reticulation of the Hurvvorth area is being dealt with; that Mr. E. Beale be informed that the Council cannot see its way to grant him a license for selling plants in the streets without payment of a li-" cense, fee; that the engineer to the Stratford County Council be informed that, the Council do not use a sufficient quantity of concrete pipes to warrant them joining in any scheme for the erection [ of a pipe-making plant in Taranaki; that I subject to the brigade obtaining the con- | sent of the residents in the street thereto the application of the Fitzroy Fire Brigade for permission to erect a temporary tower in Sackville street for practice purposes be acceded to, the tower to be removed whenever required by the Council; that Messrs. J. Easy and others be informed that the Council will shortly be considering the question of extending the street lighting to the new portions of the borough, when the question of a street light in Waiwaka terrace will be considered; that Mr. T. Morpeth be informed that the Council has no power to accept dedication of the road through the property recently subdivided by him at Vogeltown until the road is laid down in accordance with the requirements previously intimated to him; that Messrs. Coleman and Sons be informed that the Council cannot see its way to permit Messrs. May and Arrowsmith, Ltd., to occupy part of Currie lane; that Messrs. J. D. Sole and others bo informed that the Council will shortly bis considering a scheme for water reticulation to the new areas, when their application for water supply will be considered; that the offers to grant easements to allow the slope of the filling < to encroach on their properties in Leach street, received from Messrs. W. Bewley, G. Grey, W. Webber and M. Andrews, be accepted in terms of their respective letters; that the borough engineer be authorised to lay a sewer in Leach street from Liardet street to Eliot street; that, subject to the necessary easements being obtained, the borough, engineer be authorised to proceed with the formation and metalling of Leach street from Liardet street to Eliot street; that the necessary steps be taken to extend the boundaries of the borough to include the abattoir reserve, section X.R. 159, Huia district; that the qufestion of the construction of public conveniences be deferred for a month; thjit, provided T. Partington has the telephone connection' at his residence in his own name he be granted an allowance of £3 per annum towards the telephone subscription; that the borough engineer's subscription to the telephone as from April 1 last be paid by the council; that upon his passing a practical examination to be set by the borough Engineer, E. J. Kalchert be granted a temporary plumber's license until May that T. Partington be granted a drainlayer's license annually during such time as lie is employed by the borough; that the borough engineer be instructed 'to dismantle and remove the old pound buildings at Vogeltown; that the borough engineer be instructed to effect i temporary repairs to'the'footway over the Liardet street bridge;. that Mr. Howson be' informed that the Council cannbt see its way to grant him permission to remove earth from tfhilman'streetyFitz- | roy; that the engineer to the St. Aubyn Town Board be informed that, in vidw of the fact that it is not in possession of full information relating to contracts, let by the Board, the Council cannot sfee its way to consider his suggestions with reference to formation, work in Belt I road.
ENGINEER'S REPORT. The borough engineer (Mr. C. Skitrop) reports, inter alia:—• Streets.—The past month has been very severe on the streets and roads. Currie street: This street is now completed. except for rolling which will tie done from time to time as required. Hansford street: The metalling is now completed and only requires blinding. Newton street: This street, from Mottiroa road to Rainsford street, is just about .completed, and only requires blinding. Belt' road: This road has been metalled and blinded between Hinc street and St. Aubyn street. Forty-six chains of footpaths have been re-formed anfl covered with gaol gravel. . i
Street Loan.—Molesworth Street EaSt,: Very little progress has been made with the work, owing to the excessive wejt weather. Scarcely any work has beep (lone at the Morley street filling, as the filling has been too soft to let the Grays go over it. { Sewer Loan.—Owing to the soft condition of the low portion of the groun(l. it has been necessary to stop the work on Aubrey and King streets sewer,, but as soon as the weather improves again it will be continued. The Leach street sewer is now being laid between Eliot ami Cover streets in order to have the pipes in place before the filling goes on. Seven sewer connections have been put in this month, and eight water connections. ELECTRICAL EKGIXEF.R'? REPORT.
The report of the electrical engineer (Mr. H. Black) reads as follows: —Owing to the test of the pipe line not being completed, we have not yet been able to get the OOin. wall pipes built in. The inside of the forebay has been plastered, three valves fixed, and the screens put in place. The pipes in the pipe line have been filled several times, but still require some caulking. Some earth filling has been done, the remainder being held hack until the pipe line has been passed. Eighteen men. have been employed • during the month. The connections to the supply lines now number '.*9B, an increase of SO for the past six months. The wires and cables on order are due within the next week or two, some having already arrived in Wellington.'
RESERVES COMMITTEE. The Reserves Committee recommends': That the borough engineer be authorised to call for tenders for painting the mortuary chapel at the cemetery; that the borough engineer be authorised to erect" sanitary conveniences
at the cemetery; that the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals be granted the free use of' a room for meetings in the Town ITall once a month in the afternoons; that the tender of Michael Jones at £1 per tinnum for the lease of section 233!). Xew Plymouth, with perpetual rights of renewal, be accepted.
