V\ omen s Emigration Society, gave joint evidence at the Empire Commission. 1 hey stated that girls sent to Australasia by the Society were safe, but they had proof that attempts had been mad* to corrupt other, female emigrants OB shipboard. They had also been tempted at wayside ports or on arrival in Aus- ' tialia to abandon domestic service. Ia some cases the girls disappeared alto*' gether. All emigration agents ouriit to be licensed.
