THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. San Francisco, October 11. Professor David Starr Jordan, addressing the Leland-Stanford University students, paid a high tribute to the Australians' prowess as footballers. lh' said that the Australians had played i solely for love of the' sport, and the Americans had much to learn in this respect. The Leland-Stanford University in 1903 adopted Rugby in preference to American football, believing it cleaner sport. The wisdom of such action had since been proved.
