Although the season will not open till early next month, the Xew Plymouth and Fitzroy clubs' greens will he open this afternoon for practice matches. The greens are, considering the time of the year, in very good order. Mr. L. Olivers has been appointed secretary of the Fitzroy Club, vice Mr. IT. H. Whitehead, resigned. Mr. Whitehead, who leaves for Inglewood on Monday, has been presented by members with a ll^gaMMMHMHHgw^jg^f HHHHBiHH9H^B< y HH^HHHBHII^^^HR y it is perverted and degraded, robbecFoT much of its beauty and attractiveness when played with very narrow bowls. Learn to draw rather than drive. A' large proportion of beginners early manifest a disposition to strong play; to ride the jack appears in their eyes the most brilliant of all shots. Let him first perfect himself as far as in his power in drawing and fine play, then skill in what little driving he will be required to do will be acquired readily enough. Though it should not, do not let him vex himself, hut reilect that quiet play is, after all, the highest form of the game, and will establish his reputation more surely than the perhaps more showy, but coarser, rottgh-and-tumbt'c' style.
