The Meteorological Office published the following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary: Warm and humid conditions have prevailed, but rain fell in many parts of the North Island and •on the west coast of the South Island on Thursday night. Westerly and northerly winds, moderate to strong, have prevailed. The barometer has fallen in the south. Forecast: Present indications are for westerly and northerly winds,, increasing from strong to a gale generally, and 'veering to a squally southerly in and southward of Cook Strait after about r 24 hours. Warm and hazy weather is likely to give place to unsettled conditions, with rain in most parts, and heavy rain with rivers rising on the west coast and southern districts of the South Island shortly.
