The Hawera Club opened its season on Wednesday. Mr. Ab. Goldwater, presi- [ dent of the New Plymouth Club, in preI senting the banner to the club, congratu- ! lated Hawera on its win, and said he would have liked verymiueh to have had the honor of handing the emblem over to Mr. R. H. Nolan, the first president, and he regretted that that gentleman was not present. The playing for the banner had brought the clubs in the province into closer touch with one another than formerly, which was the. very best thing in the interests of bowling. He hoped that the banner would go from club to club, and that Hawera would on another occasion win it. A match was then arranged between the president and vice-president.—Star. .
