Bess, who was sired by that celebrated stallion Thane of Clyde, imported from Scotland by the late H.'McLean, of Invercargill, was the dam of most of Hr. A. Bremer's valuable stud of draught horses, and her progeny have been very successful at Taranaki, Hawera, Wanganui and Palmerston North shows. Two yearling colts (Commonwealth and Federation), descended from Bess, took first and second prizes at Napier Show, 1902.
