FARM AND DAIRY.

At the annual meeting of the Mangorei Dairy Company the importance of move scientific farming was instanced by several of the speakers. The Chairman remarked that in six years by the addition of fertilisers the output of the Tikorangi Dairy Company had more than doubled, and that, too, from less land. If it was possible for Tikorangi to do this, it .should be equally possible for Mangorei. It woiild, he said, surprise them if they knew what some of the Tikorangi people paid for fertilisers, 'but they were well satisfied that it more than repaid them. The best policy, remarked Mr. Morton, was fertilise liberally, as by th.it .system one got the best returns. Another speaker, during the cow-testing discussion referred to the fact that the competition of New Zealand and Australian butter had reduced Danish butter from 100s to 130s per ewt. "Are the Danes down-hearted?" he asked. "Xo, they set to work, a*d by a liberal use of manures and a system of testing have doubled their output." He considered that Mangorei could do the same.

The Hurleyville Dairy Compiuiy is consigning this season's output through Messrs Lovell and Christmas. Tlie price is Od, without recourse.

The Hell Block Dairy Company 'has disposed of its season's export output to Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and-Co., of Wellington, at 12% d per lb.

At the annual meeting of the Bell Bloek Dairy Company, the retiring directors (Messrs. S. Bundle and T. Sniellie) and Mr. 11. J. Corbett offered themselves for election. Messrs. Bundle and Corbett were relumed. Mr. H. ,1. Rice was re-elected auditor. The annual report, which was read and adopted, stated, inter alia-:—"The quantity of milk received at the factory was 0.237,0811b., an increase of ;121,34(i1b.. and at the creamery 2.00.1.2411b.-. a total" of 8,832.3221b. milk, from which was made 419,4341b. of butter, an average of 21.0.11b. milk per lb. of butter. The butter-fat totalled 3.14,0].11b., an over-run of 18.47 per cent. The average test at Bell Block was 3.0!), and at Hillsborough 4.04. After writing off £l.lO lfls for depredation, the profit and loss account shows a aredit balance of £2OOO .Is -4(1. which your directors recommend be allocated as fol-lows:—-0 per cent, dividend on the share capital paid by each shareholder to August, 31. 1011; a further payment to suppliers of 1.20 d per lb. of butter-fat: a bonus of seven guineas each to the secretary and creamery manager; leaving a balance of £2l 10s to be carried forward or otherwise dealt with. Including the dividend, suppliers will then have received an average payment of 12Vi<l per lb. of butter-fat supplied. . .

Recognising the importance of increasing the output of each supplier, and believing' this can be done by systematic culjing of the herds, a cow-testing association is being formed. If this is earnestly taken up by the shareholders, we are sure good results will be obtained." Mr. J. S. Connett has been ic-el«cted chairman of the directors,
