PROHIBITIONISTS ON THE WARPATH,

An enthusiastic meeting in the Opera House to-night was addressed by prominent leaders of the Prohibition movement on the new campaign movement. At the conclusion, the following resolution was carried unanimously: "That, "believing in the democratic principle of majority rule in public, matters, this meeting deems that the settlement of I the local option and national prohibition questions at the poll should at once come under this rule, a»d as ft step towards securing this position this meeting expresses its disapproval of the action of the annual convention of the New Zealand Alliance; in seeking to obtain, in all electorates, the signatures of voters ■to the following pledge: 'I hereby give my pledge that, regardless of party, I will not, at the next election, vote for any candidate for Parliament who will not undertake, if elected, to do his of* most to remove, or at the least very au!S> stantially reduce, the present unfair handicap on both the issues of no-licens» and national prohibition.'"
