COUNTY ELECTIONS.

[ Elections -were lield yesterday in the Mangorei and Waitara ridings of the Taranaki County Council for the return of Councillors for the ensuing two years. Eor the former riding .two Councillors were required, and there wiere three candidates. There was considerable interest shown in the various localities, as may be gauged from a perusal of the figures, which show that plumping was prevalent. The polling in this .riding, however, was not as heavy as might have been expected. The figures place Jas. K. Hill, the retiring member, at the -head of the poll, and his confrere at the Council table will be Mr. J. Andrews, of Waitara Road, who polled 99 votes. Mr. G. M. Longstaff, the unsuccessful Candidate, polling 84 votes. In the new Mangorei riding the polling was fairly heavy, as out of 280 available votes 202 were recorded. The result proved an easy victory for Mr. Arthur Morton, who has seen much service on various public bodies throughout Taranaki, whilst ;his opponent, Mr. B. White, is comparatively a stranger to Taranaki. Mr. It.
