ENTERTAINMENTS.
EMPIRE PICTURES. Last night saw the bi-weekly change of programme at the Empire' Theatre. A good all-round series of films was submitted, to the accompaniment of numerous entrancing selections by the orch.es>> tra, some of which were taken from "II Trovatore." The subjects were *s varied as they were interesting, scenic, dramatic, topical and comic pictures being nicely blended. On the dramatic side, much interest centred in "The Physician's Honor," a Lubin drama, excellently acted and photographed. In it a young medico was swayed on the one hand by his social duties, invoking his attendance on his fiancee, and on the other hand by a sudden call to duty, in the shape of a request to administer to the sufferings of a woman of no account. "For his Pal's Sake" showed to what lengths men will sometimes go to help a pal, when a question of honor or lov« intervenes. Another good dramatit story, beautifully and pathetically told, was unfolded in "The Little Stowaway." Mention must be made of a capital out-of-doors subject, "The Sport of Kings," which emphasised the point that, when all is said and done, horse-raeing on a large scale in England is a real business, if all the trouble, care and expense is taken into consideration. Other films included the Gaumont Graphic, "Irene's Infatuation," and other comics.
TINY TOWN TO-DAY. The great expectations of the people of New Plymouth in regard to Tiny " Town will be realised to-day, when the wonderful little people will gire two performances at the Theatre Royal—one at S p.m. and the second one at eight. The miniature village will be opened one hour earlier in each case. When the young folks of to-day hear their fathers speak of Tom Thumb and Minnie Warren, who visited Australia and New Zealand many years ago, they must remember that there were only two little midgets in the troupe, and they merely held a reception. In the Tiny Town entertainment there are no fewer than 15 dainty little people, several of them smaller than the original Tom Thumb. It is a remarkable enough sight to see so many midgets gathered together at one time, but it' is a quite phenomenal matter when we find that each one of the 15 is a star performer. The programme to be presented to-day would be regarded as clever if carried out by ordinary-sized human beings, but with tiny tots whoea average height is about 34 inches, it seems incredible. There is no doubt that children who see the perfect little models of men and women in Tiny Town , to-day will remember the wonderful little people all their lives. The box plan and day salea are at Collier's and daysales also at Hoffmann's, - !
