MEETING AT IXGLEWOOD.

Tho Teachers' Institute met at Inglewood on Saturday, the president (Mr. A. Stratford) presiding.

On receipt of a letter from the Buller

Vaneh of Dk; Nelson District Institute with regard to teachers' salaries, it was decided that the table of salaries compiled by the executive of the New Zealand Education Institute, comparing teachers' salaries with those of other branches of the public service and other employments be sent to the Taranaki M'sP., and that their attention be drawn to the inadequate salaries paid, especially in the lower positions.

On the motion of Mr. I>rown, seconded by Mr. Templar, it was decided to send a circular to «11 teachers, asking their opinion on the following allocation of holidays:—One week in June, one in September, and one at Christmas. 'Messrs. Stratford, Mcllroy and Tcmpler were elected representatives to the annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute, to be held at Mew Plymouth early in January.

It was decided to forward the following remits to the conference:—(l) That inspectors should be appointed and controlled by the Education Department; (2) that the Minister of Education be asked to introduce a Dominion scheme for the classification and promotion of teachers; (3) that at least two depart. mental inspectors be appointed, one for each Island, their duties being to travel through the various education districts and report to the department on the schools visited by them; (4) that', the expenses of a teacher transferred *by an education board be defrayed, by such board; (5) that superannuation allowance be calculated on best three consecutive years of service;. \G) .that those teachers who failed to join the superannuation fund under the original Act bfe permitted to join on paying arrears from January 1, 1900, together with interest, and should rank as original members,
