WEATHER.
The Government Meteorologist issued the following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Tbe barometer has risen everywhere, with southerly winds, strong to a gale, and rain in most parts of the country. An improvement has teen reported today, except about the East Cape, but high "westerly winds have sprung up in Foveaux Strait this afternoon. Forecast: Present indications are for strong south-easterly winds, veering Ijy east to northerly north-west of New Plymouth and. Napier, and increasing northerly and westerly winds elsewhere. The barometer will prohably rise slowly for a short time in the north and fall in ' the south. Fair to cloudy weather is probable generally, and unsettled conditions, especially on the west coast and in southern districts southward of Kanrhia and Castlepoint.
