I XEWTOX KING'S WEEKLY REPORT/ On Friday, 13th inst., at my Waiwakaiho yards, I had a very good entry of cattle, a good number of yearlings being yarded. These met with very poor enquiry, very few of the yearlings being sold. The dairy cows and heifers offered were a second rate lot and bidding, of course, was accordingly slow. 11l my Urenui yards on Monday, 16th, there was a fair entry of cattle, with a good demand throughout for all classes, especially for dairy heifers, of which class some very fine stock were yarded. A small line of mixed hoggets elicited spirited bidding, realising Ids 7d. Two goods pens of bullocks were entered, one of 4 and 5-year-olds, in good condition, realising £7 ss, whilst the other pen of nice 3-year cattle brought £0 5s Gd. On the same day at Douglas I had a very small yarding, which realised: Yearling heifers £2 9s, 2-year empty heifers £4, 2-ycar steers £4 Gs, store cows £3 8s Gd to £4, dairy cows (best) £lO 10s to £l2 2s Gd, others ,£G 15s, springing heifers up to £8 12s Gd. For my fortnightly sale in the Stratford yards on Tuesday cattle came forward to full advertised numbers. The attendance of the public, whilst not so large as at recent sales, was good, buyers being present in good numbers from all parts of Taranaki and Wanganui. Yearlings were in much better enquiry. Good store cows sold very readily. Several good pens of bullocks were offered, but with two exceptions did not reach tlie reserves. On Wednefiday, 18th, at Stony River. I had a wvy good entry of all' classics with a good majority of yearling cattle. Most of the cows were either very late or empty, anything close to calving selling very readily at the following rates:— Rest dairy cows £8 10s to £ll, late £5 to £O, empty £3 5s to £4 ss, Ayrshire bull £2 lis, empty sow £2 lis, gig and harness £l6, disc £0 us. On Saturday, 21st.. at the New Plymouth haymarket. there was a small entry of pigs, .which maintained late prices as follows; Weaners lis 0d to 10s Od, small stores £1 is to 1 ss, heifer calves os.
On Tuesday, 24th inst., at my Stratford dairy yards, there was a good entry and attendance. Bidding throughout was brisk, sales being made at the following rates:—On account, of Mr. R. H. Phillips: Dairy cows £8 to £ll 10s,, aged £6 to £7 10s, springing heifers £0 5s to £7 13s. On account of Mr. John Davis: Choice springing heifers £!) 17s Od to £lO, others £5 10s to £0 10s. MATTHEWS. BENNETT & CO.'S REPORT. Matthews, Bennett and Co. had a fair yarding of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last. Prices were good. Weaners made £2 to £3, empty heifers £4 10s, springers £G to £8 15s, dairv cows £5 to £B.
Paddock sales during the week: Dairy cows £7 to £9, springing heifers £7 ss, empty £5 2s Gd, yearling steers £2 10s, ewe's and lambs 15s 6d to 18s Gd, wethers 2ls, hoggets 13s. LOAN & MERCANTILE CO.'S REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency C0.,-Ltd. and Reduced (Stratford branch) report as follows: iWe held a sale at our Kohuratahi yards on Friday, 13th inst. Owing to the weather being exceptionally rough and to the very bad state of the roads, all the advertised stock did not come forward, so the yarding was not so large as was anticipated. There were several outside buyers in attendance and the sale wae fairly good, a considerable quantity of stock being sold. Fifteen to eightecn-months steers made up to £3 12s, small 2-year empty heifers £3 12s, 2-year steers (small) £4 3s to £4 55., 3-year bullocks (nice line) £6 2s 6d. At our Stratford yards on Tuesday, 84th inst., we held our usual fortnightly combined sale. There was a fair yarding, especially of young stock, and there was keen competition, nearly every line yarded being sold. Mixed weaners (small and inferior) made 555, yearling steers (fairly good quality) up to 665, yearling heifers (small) 65s to 65s (for well-grown stuff), and quality and color and suitable for breeding purposes realised from 75s to 112s, for a very nice line; store cows 60s to 7Gs, fat and forward cows (in demand) 1103 to 120s, while a very nice fat cow, on account of a Toko client, realised £8 7s Gd. There were a good number ofdairy cows yarded, -as well as heifers, most of which were sold. The dairy cows were not up to the usual standard and realised from 110s to 2355. Of the springing heifers, some were not close enough to profit for buyers, but notwithstanding they they sold under good competition from 92s Gd to 162s Gd. Since our last report we have sold a considerable quantity of stock privately at the following prices:—Mixed hoggets up to 14s, fat wethers 18s Gd to 245, mixed yearling steers (small) 52s Gd to 55s Gd, yearling steers (showing quality) 50s to 65s Gd, 2-year steers £4 2s Gd to £4 ss, 18-months steers 70s, 18-months heifers 70s, 2-year heifers £3 16s to £4 12s Gd, dairy cows from £8 upwards.
LONDON WOOL SALES. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated 24th inst.:— The wool sales opened with a large attendance of buyers. Competition is animated, but there is an indifferent selection. So far hardly any merinos have been offered. As compared with last sales' closing rates, for merinos, a change, if any, is in sellers' favor. Pine and medium crossbreds arc from par to 5 per cent, higher, and coarse crossbreds are 5 per cent, to 7% P er cent - higher.
JOIINSONVILLE STOCK SALE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale as follows:—Both cattle and sheep sold readily at full rates. Prime heavy bullocks £ll 15s Gd, primeb ullocks £lO 17s Gd to £ll 2s 6d, lighter £9 15s to £lO 12s Gd, vealers 365, extrap rime heavy wethers 27s 3d, prime wethers 22s sd, extra prime ewes 23s Gd, prime ewes 21s 6d, prime lines (extra) 18s 3d, good 16s to 10s 3d. smaller 14s Gd to 15s.
ADDINGTON MARKET. At Addington there were fair entries of stock and a good attendance. Fat cattle were a shade easier, fat sheep opened at rates somewhat below- those of last week, fat lambs sold well, and store sheep brought quite up to late rates. Store cattle were again in demand. Store sheep—Yarding small, consisting principally of hoggets. Inferior to medium ewe hoggets 15s Od to 17s 7d, medium wethers 14s Od to 15s Sd, forward -I anl (i-tooth wethers 20s 4d, 2 and 4 tooth IS* Od, 2-tooths (small) 10s 3d, merinos 14s 9d to 15s 7<l. ewes (in low condition, with lambs) 9s 3d to 10s 9d (all counted), culls Bs, 2-tooth backward in lamb 18s.
Fat lambs—Best sorts made 20s to 25s 3d. smaller 12s Oil to 17s Od. Fat sheep—Extra prime wethers made up to 28s 3d. prime 21s to 255, others 19s Od to 20s Gd, shorn 15s Sd to 16s fid, extra prime ewes to 295, prime 18s to 22s 10d, others 15s 9d to 17s fid. merino wethers 17s to 25s Oil. hoggets 17s fid to 20s Gd. Fat cattle—Beef realised 27s Od to 3Gs Gd per 1001b. according to quality. Steers brought £H to £ll 17s Od. extra to £2O 15s, heifers £7 5s to £lO 10s, extra to £l4 10s, cows £5 10s to £8 10s, extra to £l2 12s Gd.
Store cattle—Yearlings made from £2 5s to £2 17s Od, 15 and 18-moiiths sorts £3 8s to £.3 12s Od, -2-year steers £5 7s Gd, 2-year heifers £4 Os to £4 lis, 3-year heifers £0 15s, dry cows £2 10s to £5.
Dairy cows ranged from £4 to £9 ]ss. Fat pigs—Choppers realised £3 10s to £0 10s, heavy baconers £3 5s to £3 14s, lighter sorts £2 15s to £3 2s (id (equivalent to 5y t d to 5 1 / ; d per lb). Large porkers brought £2 0s to £2 12s, smaller £2 to £2 4s (equal to 5 1 /od per lb). Only a limited number of store pigs came forward. For smaller sorts the market was a shade easier. Large stores made £2 to £2 8s Gd (a line of 53 changing hands at the latter price), medium 22s to 355, small sorts 10s to 21s. .Sows in pig realised £4 3s to £4 10s, weaners 12s to 17s. *
