Bircli, Crisp and Co., the firm who are negotiating the Chinese loan, state that they obtained Dr. Morison's support before launching the loan. City men bplievc it will help to restore British prestige in the Far East. The Foreign Office verbally informed the firm that it was unable to prevent the issue, but would not recognise its action. The financial papers favor China's action. The Stock Exchange at the outset opposed it. until it found the security was identical with that offered to the Six Powers. The Daily News and the Chronicle denounce tlie action of the Powers. The former likens them to a bloodsucking money-lender, and is sorry Britain is taking the lead in the ilnedifying business.
THE LOAN QUOTED. London, September 26. The prospectus of the Chinese five million loan has been issued, and the loan is quoted at a quarter premium.
