SOUTH AUSTRALIAN BUDGET. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Adelaide, September 27. In the Assembly the Treasurer, in the, Budget, stated that the year ended with a surplus of £275,150, making the surpluses for the last ten years £2,172,200, which had been utilised for reducing the public debt. The population during the year had increased by over thirteen thousand. Agricultural and pastoral interests were nourishing. The estimated revenue for the current year was 1'4,351,812, and the surplus £BS.OOO. Very large sums would be required within the next few years for public works, and there was no doubt it would be necessary to go to the London market.

UNIVERSITY AMENDMENT BILL. Sydney, September 27. In the Assembly. Mr. Cannichael introduced the University Amendment Bill, which provides for the reform of the Senate, bringing it more into touch with outride interests, for increased State subsidies, and for linking up the primary schools to the university by means of scholarships, the winners of which will receive university education free of all charges. DISORDERLY SCENES. Sydney, September 27. There have been more disorderly scenes in the Assembly. Mr. Fitzpatrick was repeatedly called to order. The Speaker ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove Mr. Fitzpatriek. who left when the Sergeant approached him, and shortly afterwards reappeared. The Speaker ordered the Sergeant to call the police to remove Mr. Fitzpatriek. The latter took his scat, saying that he would wait for the. officers, and when they arrived he walked out shouting that he would be in the House when Mr. Willis was a long way out of it. A heated passagc-at-arms between Messrs. Kelly and Wood followed, Mr. Kelly inviting Mr. Wood outside. THE MATERNITY BILL. Melbourne, September 27. Tie House negatived Mr. Groom's amendment to the Maternity Bill, proposing to combine the maternity allowance with a provision against sickness and unemployment.
