In 1890 Admiral Palliscr, of H..M.S. Impericuse, landed a party of sailors and marines on the island, but without result. Seven years afterwards the Admiral made a second essay, and in 1905 •was a member of the expedition under Earl Fitzwilliam which left England, in the ,Veroni(|ue ostensibly to look for potential coalfields, but was next heard of on Coeos. In a landslide some native laborers lost their lives, and members' of the expedition—the Earl among them— were injured. At that time sensational reports obtained currency that the party had met rivals in quest of the treasure and a battle had ensued, but Ih'ese were repudiated. A Plymouth correspondent states that the ladies wlio are said to have' discovered the hiding place of the treasure are Mrs. Barry Till and Miss. Davies, wh« are already on their way to Panama te join the Melmore when she arrives there. The exact date of departure of the latest expedition to Cocos Island has not beea fixed, but it will probably be. within a week or so. - TJRENUT & A WAKINO MAIL COACH.
