AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The AvQndale Jockey Club's spring meeting opened to-day in cold, showery weather. The going was very heavy. The fields were large and the racing interesting. The attendance was large. The totalisator investments for the day aggregated £15,615, as against £13,443 for the corresponding day of last year. A heavy shower I fell as the horses lined up at the post. Monojack was the first to show out, followed by Soultikoff. Merry, Roe, Rosea and The Hague were first into the straight, the former winning in good style by a length, with Rosea fourth. The race was started in a heavy shower. Prince Soult and Lady Betty led past the stand, Sea Elf bringing up the rear. Going down the back, Bleriot ran to the front, followed by Gold Size. Bleriot led into the straight-and finished full of' '' running, and won convincingly by a length. Gold Size was a nose in front of Uranium, Sea Elf, finishing fast, being fourth. The Chief, ~ Romp and Stroller fell. Bump pulley up and Hunakaha ran off at the double the second time round, carrying off Tui Cakobau, who was going very well in second place. Won pulling up by seven lengths, the third horse a hundred yards away. V Time, 6min. 42 3-ssec.
