(Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— Mutton The market is slightly weaker, with less demand on account of high prices, but the stock is moderate and holders are firm. There is no i' change in prices. Canterbury 4%d. j North Island 4%d. I Lamb—The market is quiet. The , weather lately has been very rmfavor- ; able to the sale of lamb. Supplies of home-grown lambs are heavy, and are lowering the prices of New Zealand lamb. Canterbury 5%d, other than Canierbnrv 5V.d. Beef—The market is firm, although large supplies are coming forward. River Plate chilled curtails the retail demand. New Zealand hinds 3%d, fores 3y„d. River Plate chilled, hinds 4%d. fores 3y 4 d. Buttpr—The market is very firm, with brisk demand for best quality, but for ordinary quality, of which a large quantity is on hand, poor demand continues. Prospects are uncertain and speculative. New Zealand, in second hands, is nominally 1225. Australian 114s, Danish 131s, Siberian 110s.
Cheese The market is quiet, with little doing, but a good feeling prevails. Canadian CSs (Id. English Cheddar 735, New Zealand at second 'hand 675. Hemp—The market is firm, with better demand. Good business has been done with distant deliveries. OctoberDecember New Zealand good fair grade £27 10s, fair £2O: fair current Manila £2B. January to March £2B 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 18,000 bales. The stock of New Zealand hemp is 1025 tons. Wool—The market remains firm, and prices have slightly advanced for all grades of merinos." Cocksfoot seed.—The market is quiet. Continental seed of good quality is selling at a low price. Linseed.—The market is firm, with a hardening tendency. Bombay 63s 6d, Calcutta (52s fld, River Plate" 665, New Zealand (nominal) 66s Gd. Wheat—-Market quiet but steady. English is in an unsatisfactory condition. New Zealand long-berried ex granary, per quarter of 4001b, 345. Oats—The market is firm, with more enquiry. New Zealand short sparrowbills 26s 6d. Peas—The spot market is steady, but the demand is principally speculative. New Zealand partridge 40s 6d. Beans—The market is steady with improved demand on account of the English crop being in bad condition. New Zealand beans, f.a.q., new crop, per fiO-Hb, :58s (id. FROZEN MEAT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd. and Reduced, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date September 20:— Frozen meat —The market is easier for mutton, slightly weaker for beef, and the enquiry for lamb is limited.
