HOME RULE.
THE CHURCH MILITANT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, September 23. The Bishop of Derry, on Sunday, in a sermon, denied that Christians were bound to submit to a law sanctioned by a mutilated Parliament of one House. They were asked to put themselves at the mercy of sworn foemen, who openly declared they would take revenge in the hour of triumph. A PLEA FOR CORK. London, September 23. Mr. Tim Healy, at Cork, said that Mr. Churchill was scattering parliaments from Skye to Ireland's Eye, and therefore the Independent Nationalists were entitled to a Parliament at Cork.
THE COVENANT CONFIRMED. London, September 23. The Ulster Unionist Council at Belfast confirmed the Covenant. Lord Londonderry entertained the delegates. Sir Edward Carson and Mr. F. E. Smith were among the speakers. FURTHER PROTESTS. Received 24, 11.10 p.m. London, September 24. The Ulster Council pledged themselves not to allow domination by men disloyal to the Empire, whose faith and traditions were hateful to them. Sir E. Carson stated that Ulster wanted now a separate Parliament, but would ■not accept separate treatment. This would entail the sacrifice of the loyalists in the South-West of Ireland.
3ir. Smith said that there is no question that England is betraying Ulster It was \vrpng to confuse a great country with a small party. If there was going to be coercion by the present Government, resistance would not be limited to Ulster. The Unionists of Liverpool .would not stand idly by while Ulster's Liberals were usurped. Rifles would go off then if this iniquitous Act passed. Mr. "William O'Brien, cabling to the Canadian newspapers, suggests that the Liberals ought to satisfy Ulster, as the racial conflict in Ireland was similar to that that once divided the Canadians and England.
