RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MEETING.] By Cable—Press Association—Copjrijfkt. Received 23, 5.5 p.m. > Adelaide, September 22. At the Rifle Association meeting Captain Addison won the King's Prize for the third time. CLUB MEN AND TERRITORIALS. By Telegraph—Own Correspondent, Wellington, Last Night. The subject of railway passes for rifle club members and territorials was I brought under the notice of the Minister for Defence -(the Hon. James Alien) by i reporter to-day. The point made was that under the existing regulations members of rifle clubs are allowed a free pass to the range every Saturday during the season, while members of the Territorial force are only allowed a free pass on the occasion of' their class-firing. It was pointed out that if the Territorials are not given more practice for shooting the number of competitors at the Rifle Association meetings'is likely to be greatly affected. The Minister said that ritie club men would be given free railway passes up to 100 miles, but certain conditions would have to be laid down, and these were inow being formulated. Free passes for 100 miles could not be given to men indiscriminately. They mu§t be issued Strictly 'tinder' the regulations. Whatever was dorie for rifle club men would have to be done for the Territorials, and that made the question, a very big one. The\ annual course of classfiring for rifle ■dub men was 23 rounds, and for Territorials 03 rounds. Rifle dub men received 150 rounds per artnum free, and in addition can buy 200 'rounds at 5s per 100. It had not yet 'been decided what.the Government would do with the privilege of Territorials! to buy a certaiii' niiiflber of rourids at 5s per 100. The whole matter was under consideration, because the Government could not allow public money to pe expended Except''for useful purposes.
