MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Trades and Labor Council was • held last week, there being within throe \ of a i'ull attendance of members. Correspondence was read from the National Organiser of the United Labor Party rega.rding collecting special con- * tributiuns to fluids, and as a result Mr. j ii. Roper, who has resigned, having received a clerical appointment with a local company. | A very lengthy discussion ensued on ,> the question of the desirability of forming a Co-operative Society, and as a result a special committee was set up to draft a comprehensive scheme to give effect to this, and to report to a special meeting to be held at an early date. More than ordinary interest is being taken in the approaching visits of.Messrs W. Slaughter and Thompson (assessors from the Plumbers' Union) at a Council of Conciliation to be held on the 2fith instant, and also to the arrival of Mr. J. A. McCulloeh and Mr. Bob Whiting, who are coming to attend a sitting of the Arbitration Court on October 3rd, when the carpenters and general laborers' disputes come up for adjustment, s
