Aatley was a wealthy man. who inherited Sir John Astley\,"f< inline and married May Kinder, the ac> rt ss. When he realised that he had lost control, and that an accident was certain, he frantically waved to the onlookers to move. He turned the machine, and just cleared the crowd.
CATASTROPHE TO A BIPLANE. Berlin. September 22. Lieutenants aboard the Albatross biplane were making a flight in a heavy wind, when a defect in the steering gear caused the aeroplane to reel. One officer was thrown out. falling 500 feet. His fall destroyed the balance of the machine, which overturned and crashed to earth. AN INVENTOR KILLED. Berlin. September 22. Bittner, an inventor, ascended the Pillar of Victory to test a new parachute. The device failed, and Bittner was dashed to pieces. A cinematographer who was present to record the descent photographed the tragedy.
THE AIRSHIP IN WAR. Berne. September 22. The Inter-Parliamentary Congress, at Geneva, by an overwhelming majority, Adopted Herr Beernaert's resolution prohibiting the use of aircraft in war, especially the throwing of explosives. Baron d'Estournelle de Constant, French representative, opposed the resolution, bat the British representatives supported it.
