WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD

(From our own correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the above Board there were present: Mr J. Connett (chairman), Messrs Hall, Lepper, Surrey, and Turnbull. Correspondence was read from the Treasury advising payment of subsidy on rates amounting to £125, to the Board's account. From Advances to Settlers Office, forwarding debenture for Bertrand road loan, which had been finally approved; and from the Taranaki County Council requesting the board to pass a resolution urging the Government to proceed with the construction of the Moturoa-Te Roti railway.

Surfaceman Palmer reported that he had been engaged during the past month in the. formation of 50 chains of the upper Kelly road. Two fillings on the Te Arei road also required filling up. Surfaceman Giddy reported that the new laid metal had been raked in and blinded; he had repaired the Te Arei road with metal from Sampson's pit, and had quarried metal from the same pit for repairs to Mahoetahi road. It was resolved to expend a further £4 in repairs and formation on the upper Kelly road, the settlers having offered to assist.

The clerk was directed to arrange with the Ocean Accident Insurance Co. re insuring the board's employees for the ensuing year. Tenders were received from Messrs. Haskell and Co., and E. Richards, for metal on district roads, and Messrs Haskell's and Co.'s tenders were accepted for the following:—Brown road, 100 yds at 5s 91; Corbett road, 50yds at 5s 6d; Richmond road, 140 yds at 7s 0d; Lower Te Arei road, 120 yds at 4s: Tate road, 150 yds at ss; Waitara road, 100 yds at 7s; and Wortley road, 1511 yds at 4s. Mr Richards:—Cross road, 30yds at 7s fid; Upper Te Arei road, 100 yds at 8s; Bertrand road, 350 yds at os. Accounts amounting to £49 were passed for payment, and the board adjourned.
