OMATA. (From our own correspondent.) The hall at OmaU h:us recently undergone extensive improvements. It has been widened ten feet, and the root raised two feci. he dressing and supper rooms have been < nlarged and improved and the main entrance altered. On Thursday the l!)th a grand ball was given : to celebrate ils reopening, which proved; a decided success. The hall was tastefully decorated, and visitors from all parts of the district were present in large numbers. The ladies generally were in full evening dress, and needless to nay, looked charming. The supper was served in a livge marquee erected at the back of the hall and consisted of every delicacy nieiiiioiiable. The music —piano, violin, and comet —was excellent, and dancing was kept up until an early hour of the morning. Alessrs. 1). Hooker and P. Mace ably fulfilled the duties of M.C. Unfortunately heavy rain greeted the home goers, which would somewhat mar their pleasure. Mrs 1). Honker is, we are pleased to report, progressing favorably.

NGAERE. (From our own correspondent.) At Xgaere on Friday evening, Mr C. Robertson, late manager of the local dairy factory, was entertained at a farewell social. The hall was crowded and Mr \Y. Morrison, chairman of directors, who presided, presented Mr Robertson on behalf of the suppliers, with a valuable gold albert and medal, and an aneroid barometer, and Mrs. Robertson with a handsome gold watch. Several speakers referred to Mr Robertson's splendid record during the six years he had be»n manager. The grading returns had shown that Ngaere cheese was some of the best made in Taranaki, and in the prize lists of the, dairy shows Ngaere had often topped the list. In recognition of Air Robertson's ability he had been offered a position as Government grader, which he had accepted. In leaving Ngaere he carried away with him the congratulations and best wishes of the directors and suppliers. Hearty cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Robertson.
