The Globe approves of the suggestion that New Zealand should be represented on the Imperial Defence Committee, through the Minister of External Affairs, and says that it would be an appreciable step towards the federation of the Empire. In letters received from the Canadian cadets, they complain bitterly of the inhospitable treatment in Australia. The lads declare themselves- disgusted and anxious to return home.
BANKNOTE BOYS STRIKE. London, September 19. A hundred and thirty boys in the banknote printing department of the Bank of England struck, as a protest against levying lines for petty offences, including talking. The police dispersed a demonstration outeide the bank. FARO HOUSE RAIDED. London, September 19.
A faro house in Sherwood street, St. James, was raided and sixty-two arrests were made. One of the principals was fined £IOO and another £SO. The rest were bound over to appear when called on. TRAIN DERAILED BY DONKEYS.

Burros (donkeys), which refused to leave the railway track, derailed , the Mexican central railway -train. Eleven soldiers were killed and forty-seven injured.

MAD PRISONER'S ACT. Berlin, September 19,
Heinrich Tolle, a workman, who was under observation in Gottingen prison, bit open an artery in his left hand, bit off pieces of his upper arm, and tore the flesh off his breast. He was removed to the hospital in a desperate condition.
