The winner, who i» aged 21, successively defeated Murdoch, the Victorian amateur champion, Whitton, open champion of Australasia, and" Captain Burnham, of England. INTER-STATE MATCHM. Received 20, 1.5 a.m. Melbourne, September 19. In the Inter-State matches Victoria beat New South Wales by four matches to three; Tasmania beat South Australia by sto 2. In the final Victoria beat Tasmania by 0 to 1. THE NEW ZEALAND CHAMPION- ! SHIPS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand golf meeting was continued to-day. The weather was threatening in the morning, but the sun broke out and made the games very pleasant. Th« second round of the amateur championship and of the professional match were played, and in the afternoon a bogey 'handicap was played. x Some of the games in the amateur ''elrampionship were well fought out, a capital go being witnessed between B. B. Wood and B. L. Taylor. In the professional match W. McEwan m& J. McCormick played a fine match, tho former finishing one up. The Governortook part in a four ball bogey handicap,, his partner being A. Duncan, but they were defeated by Kennedy and B. Smith.
To-morrow the third round of the professional match and the third find fourth of the amateur championship -will be played, and the final of the amateur championship will be played on Saturday. Results are as follows: AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. SECOND ROUND. J. Harold beat G. T. George, 4 up and 3. A. Duncan beat G. Pharazon, G up and 5. A. A. Kennedy beat M. W. Horton 2 tip. 11. E. The final for the championship of th« Thursday players was played yesterday on the Tarahua links between Mr. J. E. Avery and W. H. Broome. The former was 3 up with 4 to play, but the latter retrieved the, position and won an interesting contest on the nineteenth hole. Mr. W. 11. Broome (Thursday) and Geo. Grey (Saturday) champions will have to play off to decide, the championship of the club. Mr. J. E. Avery wins the medal handicap, which was decided on the championship qualifying round with a scera' of 94 gross, 18 handicap, 76 net.
