THE WATER RECEDING. By Cfible —Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, September 18. The floods are mostly subsiding. The extreme northwest corner of the malleo country alone escaped. In the northeast, along the valleys of the Murray tributaries, the waters have left a track wider than ever before. There was phenomenal rain in the mountains, Woods Point getting nearly nine inches in five days. No further fatalities are reported, but there were many narrow escapes. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. Received 18, 9.40 p.m. Melbourne, September 18. Wide areas are flooded in the Murray Valley and in Southern Gippsland. The damage to crops and property is severe. The losses along the valley of the- Wimmera are estimated at £IOO,OOO.
