A MOTHER'S DEVOTION.

SAVES FAMILY FROM FLAMES. BABY CHARRED TO DEATH. New York September 4. William Bower j/nd his two children, of Logansport, Indiana, owe their lives to the heroism of Mrs Bower. Had it not been for her quick action, all would have -been burned to death. Mrs. Bower was working in the barn on her husband's farm when she saw flames -rising from-the roof of the 'homestead. There were no men about the place, and her husband and children were within the burning building. She rushed into the bedroom where i the baby was asleep, but a blazing rafter [had fallen on it and burnt it to death. The other two children were lying unconscious on the floor, overcome by the smoke. She dragged them out into the open-air and placed them beside the charred body of the baby, not knowing whether they, too, were dead or not. Then she went back into the blazing house and dragged out iher unconscious husband. When the farm hands arrived, attracted by the flames and smoke, they found the woman lving unconscious by the side of her children, whilst the house was a flaming ruin.

! All except the baby are expected to recover.
