The application of a committee of settlers for a site on section 13, block 3, Aria, for saleyards was refused, as it would be a detriment to the balance of the section to grant the request. A report was submitted on deficient improvements on sestion 20, block 5, Ohura. and the selector was granted an extension of time till April next, when he estimated he would have improvements in excess of the requirements. It was decided to take no action in regard to a report that settlers were floating rafts of timber down the Ohura river in contravention of the Timber Floating Act.
It was resolved to confirm the previous resolution declining the application of the Waitara Borough Council to have section 2, Waitara West (suburban) vested in it as a cemeterv.
The Board resolved that it was of opinion that the Taranaki County Council should re-consider its refusal to the sale of a closed road in part NIL 1, Grey district, to an adjoining district. The Board could see no apparent reason why the area should not be disposed of. The application of James Deinpsey, selector of section 1. block 5, Totoro, to lease section 8, block 5, Totoro, adjoining his section, was approved. The report on the proposal to subdivide .section 1.5. block 12, Mapara, 104 acres, and add to it sections 10. 20, 10 and 11 adjoining, so as "to bring each'up to 20O"'acres or thereabout, was approved subject to the settlers being eligible.
The Commissioner was left to deal with the report on the' alterations proposed to be made to sections 1 and 2, block 3, and sections 2 and 3, block 4, Totoro, in consequence of the deviation of the Auahi road.
A report was tabled on the application of a married woman for section 1. block 6, Tangitu, which she drew in a ballot in Augu>t last. She admitted, it was reported. that an agreement was entered into prior to the ballot that others snould become partners on the event of one drawing a section.—lt was resolved that action be deferred, ponding further enquiries as to the alleged contravention of the Act. A proposal was approved to amend the boundary of section 21, block 11, Mapara, held by J. J. Kenny, to include an area of 12 acres, formerly part of section 2-2. It was decided to confirm the sale of the lease of section 572, New Plymouth, to 11. Beale, and sections 290 and 31G, New Plymouth, to W. B. Davies. The application of A. H. T. Jones, lessee of sections 2308 and 2310, New Plymouth, for permission to build and make other improvements was approved. So as not to interfere with the prospects of establishing a school in the district, it was decided to refuse the ap- : plication of John Covlett for exemption from residence on section 1. block 10, Waro, to enable him to send his children to school. RANGERS' REPORTS. Ranger Twiss reported that he had made nine inspections of holdings, which showed that all the selectors had effected improvements in excess of the requirements, and there were no defaulters for residence. •
A report was also submitted by Ranger Tolme on his inspection of eight holdings. All the settlers had complied with the residence conditions, two were deficient in improvements, but in most cases they were in excess of the requirements. The Hoard resolved to offer sections -I and (i. block 5, Totoro, under part ;S of tiie Land Act. 11. P. C. McLean's application for the right to cut timber on section (i was on this account refused. An extra*l was read from the Taranaki J)aily News regarding the alleged dissatisfaction in connection with the ratinir on sections in Stratford, lint no action was taken. The holders of a sawmill license over section 1, block 2, Viopiotea West, formerly held by A. J. Whittaker, wrote objecting to the proposed disposal of part of the land, as it would hamper them in working the bush.—lt was resolved to take no action to offer any of tie land.
I'. (Jruickshank, lessee of section 2. block -1, Waro. applied for permission to fall bush on (■lie river bank road in order to gain an inlet to his section.--Approv-ed. providing the County Council was notified. , 1 A temporary lease of about 20 acres at Okahukara was granted to T. ,T.
