Toronto (writes a correspondent) intends to fight the big meat concerns which seem bent on wiping out the city cattle market, if possible. With a view to retaining the market the city proposes to build an abattoir, and has secured the promise of the Premier, SilJames Whitney, and several of his colleagues in the Ontario Government, to permit the city to issue debentures for this purpose to the sum of 300,000 dollars without going to the. ratepayers. It is expected that the building can be erected in four months, and will cost between 200,000 and 300,000 dollars. It is felt that it would pay the city to build an abattoir and keep the city cattle market running even if it lost f>o,ooo dollars a year on it, in the interests of the citizens. The civic abattoir would have a slaughtering capacity of (KM) cattle per week. It would be built on the cattle market property. This is one phase of the everintensifying struggle with the upward trend in the cost of living. CONSTIPATION. Constipation is the cause of far more ills than many dream of.
