PUBLIC SERVICE BILL.
POSTAL PROTESTS. By Telegraph . —Press Association. Napier, Tuesday. A largely attended meeting of post and telegraph officers last night unanimously resolved strongly to protest against the amalgamation of Post and Telegraph officers with the rest of the Public .Service Hill. A resolution was also passed requesting the Minister in charge of the Bill to allow representatives of the oll'icers from different centres to give evidence before the Select Committee of the House, before the third reading of the Bill was proceeded with. Blenheim, Tuesday. The local branch of the Post and Telegraph Oll'icers' Association strongly protests against amalgamation with other departments, on the ground that the work and hours for duty are dissimilar and the department must stand alone to ■preserve the rights now existing, and granted to cover the unnatural and extraordinary hours. The Speaker of the House of itepreisentatives (Sir Arthur Guiness), who is memoer for (Irey, last night received a telegram from the President of the West Coast Branch of the Post and Telegraph Association, staling that a meeting of the branch had entered a strong protest against the inclusion of the Department in the Public Service Bill, and asking him to use his influence to 'have the Bill referred to a Select Committee, before which they could jjive evidence. The Speaker saw the Prime Minister on the subject this morning, and was informed that the matter would be J) tough t under the consideration of the Cabinet.
